Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1 tablespoon coarse salt
- 1/4 cup vegan butter, melted
- Vegan mustard for dipping
Instructions:
In a bowl, combine warm water and sugar
Sprinkle yeast over the mixture and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy
Add flour to the yeast mixture gradually, stirring until a dough forms
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic
Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each portion into a long rope
Shape each rope into a pretzel
Preheat the oven to 450F 230C
In a large pot, bring water to a boil
Add baking soda
Boil the pretzels, one at a time, for about 30 seconds each
Remove and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet
Brush the pretzels with melted vegan butter and sprinkle with coarse salt
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown
Serve warm with vegan mustard for dipping
